2025 The Ana Beatriz Domenech Scholarship: For Nursing
2025 The Ana Beatriz Domenech Scholarship: For Nursing The Ana Beatriz Domenech Scholarship for Nursing
The Ana Beatriz Domenech Scholarship for Nursing is designed for high school seniors and college students who are pursuing careers in nursing, advanced practice nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), and Patient Care Technician (PCT) roles.
About Ana Beatriz Domenech
Ana Beatriz Domenech was a proud Puerto Rican, born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, with a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Although she did not fulfill this dream herself, her passion for helping others with their health was passed down to her daughters.
Journey to the United States
Upon arriving in the United States, Ana faced the challenge of not speaking English. She worked diligently in a factory as a seamstress, supporting her siblings by bringing them to the country and helping them pursue better futures. Despite having limited formal education, Ana recognized the importance of education and made efforts to improve her English through classes.
Career Achievements
Ana worked her way up from being an aide to becoming the assistant director of the Betances Senior Citizen Center, a nonprofit organization, until she was required to retire by the City of New York. Throughout her life, she worked hard as a necessity, having been widowed twice while raising three children.
Her eldest child was the first in the family to attend college, followed by her two younger children, who, while not directly pursuing nursing careers, are involved in health-related fields.
Legacy and Impact
Ana’s family shares her wish for more Puerto Ricans to take on vital roles as caretakers in the health field. The Ana Beatriz Domenech Scholarship for Nursing aims to carry on her legacy of valuing education and caring for the infirm.
