The Circle of 100 Emergency Fund

The Circle of 100 Emergency Fund is awarded to students facing an unforeseen financial adversity. Awards are allocated between $100 to $500, according to the needs of each individual student. Applicants must submit through the scholarship system the documentation that may prove the need for the emergency fund (in the event that you experience issues uploading the required documents, contact the scholarship office for assistance). The needs to be considered for this emergency fund may include having an outstanding medical or electric bill, facing housing or eviction issues, having a past due childcare bill, etc. Needs that will not be considered are: books, tuition balances and other academic related reasons.
Recipients will be selected on a need basis and the amount approved varies according to each applicant’s described need and supporting documents provided.
Applicants must:
*Submit two letters of recommendation from faculty or staff (only the people you list as your recommenders when completing the application can upload the letter on your behalf)
*Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
*Have completed a minimum of 40 credits
*Answer all supplemental questions

Supplemental Questions
  1. Describe your financial emergency (Note: This could include family emergencies, fire, theft, injury, housing or eviction issues, past due electric or childcare bill, outstanding medical bill, facing food insecurity or transportation issues, etc. Please provide supporting documents: accident reports, police reports, doctor's note, counselor or faculty statement based on a review.)
  2. Describe the services you have provided and/or planning to provide at Hostos Community College and/or your community. (Note: service can be volunteer work in clubs, tutoring, assistance to other students, community organizations including schools, churches, etc.)
  3. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must submit two (2) letters of recommendation from a faculty member, advisor or staff member at the College.
