The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation Student Emergency Grants
The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation Student Emergency Grant is for students in good academic standing with short-term financial emergencies. The award is to enable students to make progress toward graduation. Students must be currently enrolled at Hostos Community College with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Freshmen and transfer students will also be considered.
*Previous Scholarship Recipients are NOT ELIGIBLE.
Examples of an emergency include, but are not limited to:
- Temporary loss of employment;
- Displacement as a result of water damage or fire
- Theft of property (i.e., computer, books, clothing, or other essential belongings)
- Medical bills
- Travel as a result of family emergency (i.e., death, illness)
- Homelessness (i.e., living in shelter, housing situation has changed)
- Facing Eviction
- Childcare (i.e., fees associated with childcare)
- Basic-needs clothing necessary for school, internship, employment interview (i.e., coat, business attire, shoes, boots.)
- Food card to eat in school cafeteria;
- Transportation card to and from school
- Utility bill (i.e. Turn-off Notice for gas and electric only)

*Will range depending on documented circumstances, not to exceed $1,500 a semester and is based on availability of funds.
