The Richard A. Propper Memorial Scholarship at Hostos Community College
The Richard A. Propper Memorial Scholarship at Hostos Community College
Richard Propper was an instrumental leader in the city’s reinvestment in the South Bronx. For more than 60 years, he lobbied on behalf of his beloved community to secure grants, beneficial legislation and development opportunities. In the 1970s, he also played a key role in the removal of an obsolete elevated train line that had darkened Third Avenue for many years.
Mr. Propper championed the establishment of the HUB Third Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), a non-profit that promotes the growth and vitality of the Third Avenue commercial corridor.
His love of the Bronx lives on.
The Richard A. Propper Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends of Mr. Propper to honor his devotion to the South Bronx community and his belief that education is the foundation for opportunity. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Business Management Program who provide documentation of academic or personal needs.
